On the day of your procedure, you will experience three separate steps: liposuction, processing of the harvested fat, and finally, re-injection into the breast tissue. This is usually done under general anesthesia to keep you as comfortable as possible.
Liposuction — The autologous Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation procedure will begin with Dr. Hubert harvesting your fat from donor sites (typically the abdomen, flanks, and thighs) that were discussed during your consultation. Processing — Once your fat is harvested, it will be purified, then placed into small syringes. This is done by spinning the collected liposuction fluid to isolate the living fat cells, called adipocytes, for injection. This increases the likelihood of a large portion of the fat surviving in the long term.
Re-injection — During the final step, Dr. Hubert adds the fat in strategic areas throughout your breast to refine its shape, smooth out any asymmetries, and enhance your breast’s volume naturally.

After your Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation, you will experience some swelling and bruising at the donor sites, as well as in your breasts. We recommend wearing a post-operative bra that is not too tight, since the augmentation uses live cells. However, you will wear a much more tightly-fitting compression garment over the donor sites. This helps cut down on swelling and encourages the skin to settle in its best position. You should also plan to take the next 1-2 weeks off from work to recover comfortably.
After the initial stages of your recovery, the areas of natural breast tissue where fat was transferred will appear softer and fuller. The survival of fat depends on how the fat was harvested, purified, and injected. Some fat will be absorbed by the body, so the results seen directly after the procedure will not be as pronounced after healing. Most patients can expect to retain 50-80% of the fat transferred. This usually stabilizes by three months.
