Lip Lift Richmond

A lip lift increases self confidence with age.

At our practice in Richmond, VA, lip lift surgery has recently become very popular and a procedure that many of our patients are interested in. It’s no secret that having a more defined upper lip is a trait that many patients desire. Terms like “lip fillers” and “lip injections” are two of the most popular non-surgical terms searched on Google. A lip lift is a more permanent solution to help patients get the lips they’ve always desired.

What is a Lip Lift?

A lip lift is a convenient and easy, in-office surgical procedure that is designed to elevate your upper lip. Depending on what your desired outcome is, It can be performed to either shorten the distance of an overly long lip or to expose more of the vermillion (also called “red show”) for lips that are naturally very thin, which makes them look fuller and more youthful.

What are the Benefits of a Lip Lift?

Dr. Hubert has noticed many wonderful benefits from his patients receiving a lip lift, such as:

It’s a permanent solution for fuller lips.

There’s no need for ongoing maintenance using temporary injectable fillers.

It’s performed under local anesthesia, so you can go home the same day as your procedure.

Since the surgery lifts rather than adding bulk to your lips, you can avoid the “duck lips” that are often associated with filler injections.

It gives your mouth a more proportional look compared to the rest of your face.

Enhances your lips and exposes more of your upper teeth, which creates a more youthful look.

Who are the Best Candidates for a Lip Lift?

As you get older, into the 50s, 60s, 70s, and beyond, the skin of the upper lip can get saggy and can cover your upper teeth. If you are noticing that the distance between your nose and lip is too long, or that your upper lip is rather thin, you could be a great candidate for a Lip Lift. In addition, Dr. Hubert has seen many patients thrive with a Lip Lift where Lip Filler Injections may have failed in the past (i.e. your lips appear long and heavy as opposed to plump and balanced).

What’s the First Step?

The first step to getting a lip lift in Richmond, VA with Dr. Hubert is to book a consultation. During your appointment, Dr. Darrin Hubert will be able to answer questions and further explain the surgery. Dr. Hubert will provide a full assessment during the consultation to help define if you’re a good candidate for the surgery.

If you and Dr. Hubert both feel that this is the best solution for your aesthetic needs, surgery will be booked, and we’ll provide you with pre and postoperative instructions.

What to Expect on the Day of Lip Lift Surgery?

Dr. Hubert will begin by drawing a wavy ellipse shape (also called “bullhorns” or a “gull-wing”) right under your nostrils, which outlines the area of skin he will cut and remove. You will then have a local anesthetic injected into the area to numb it and eliminate possible pain felt during the procedure. Dr. Hubert will then cut along the bullhorn outline and remove it, then anchor your remaining skin at the base of your nose, which suspends your top lip and instantly shortens your philtrum.

Lip Lift Recovery

The average patient will be able to return to work after about seven days of downtime. During this period, you can expect to be slightly red and swollen with the possibility of having some mild bruising around your mouth. You can alleviate these symptoms and help your recovery results by using cold compresses, over-the-counter pain medication, cleaning the incision with gentle facial soap and water, and applying antibiotic ointment.

We highly recommend avoiding smoking and excessive chewing for at least two weeks for optimal recovery results.

How Much Does a Lip Lift Cost in Richmond?

The cost of a lip lift in RVA will vary on a number of factors. The best way to get the most accurate cost will be to book a consultation. During your appointment, Dr. Hubert will explain the pricing in detail. Financing options are made available which can help manage the payment process.

Lip Lift FAQs

Your Lip Lift Questions Answered

Is there a non-surgical option?

Toggle

Dr. Hubert does offer several non-surgical options for a Lip Lift, although they are not nearly as long-lasting. Some options are:

  • Lip Filler (lip injections) – this procedure provides you with more subtle results without the expense, risks, or recovery time of surgery.

If you are interested in all that Dr. Hubert has to offer as a non-surgical option, please schedule a consultation with our office for more information.

Are the results permanent?

Toggle

Yes! One of the major benefits of getting a Lip Lift is that the results are long-lasting and don’t require routine maintenance or multiple visits. While your body will continue to see the side effects of time and gravity affecting your appearance, this procedure will leave you satisfied for years to come.

What are the risks?

Toggle

Although Dr. Hubert takes pride in providing years of experience and talent to help you achieve your dream lips, there are always risks when it comes to surgery and body enhancement.

  • Care is taken to avoid removing too much skin. More of your top teeth will be visible, so if your upper teeth are overcrowded, discolored, or uneven, others will be able to see them. In this instance, you may want to consider other cosmetic dentistry options such as teeth straightening or whitening.
  • The tiny scar produced by the surgery is hidden along the base of the nostrils. It tends to fade a lot over time. However, there is always a possibility that it might be visible on close inspection.

Does a lip lift change my smile?

Toggle

Yes, a Lip Lift will certainly change your smile. Since your lip will be lifted upwards, you will have more teeth and gum exposure, which gives you a more youthful look. While most patients have positive reactions to their new smiles, there is also the possibility of a negative response. As mentioned in the Risks question, if you are afflicted with overcrowded or discolored teeth, they will be more noticeable than before.
