Several years earlier, this woman had undergone lumpectomy on the right side for breast cancer, followed by radiation therapy. When she developed a cancer recurrence, she had mastectomies to remove both breasts, as well as direct-to-implant reconstructions, all by other surgeons. With an increased risk for complications on the right due to prior radiation, the implant was removed for an infection, and she was referred to Dr. Hubert. Since the patient was so thin, Dr. Hubert was able to create a new breast on the right with both a DIEP flap and a small implant beneath it (sometimes called the hybrid technique). He also performed additional fat grafting on the right and exchanged the implant on the left, with the result you see in the After photos.
