This woman was diagnosed with a breast cancer on the right. She had bilateral mastectomies but did not have any immediate breast reconstruction at that time. The right breast then required radiation treatment, which is evident by the dark discoloration of the skin in the Before photo. Once skin has been radiated, it often does not expand or stretch well. Her best option was to replace most of the tight skin with healthy, non-radiated skin from elsewhere on her body. Dr. Hubert reconstructed both of her breasts with DIEP flaps from the lower abdomen. Since she was somewhat thin, the DIEP flaps provided enough skin but not quite enough bulk. Therefore, Dr. Hubert then did additional liposuction fat transfer and placed small (200 cc) breast implants beneath the DIEP flaps. This gave her breasts an outstanding, natural shape. Nipples were created surgically, and tattoos reconstructed the areolas.
